Turkish sports minister and athletes leave for UK

ISTANBUL 

Turkish Youth & Sports Minister Suat Kilic and Turkish athletes departed for the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

Most of the athletes who will represent Turkey in 2012 London Olympic Games as well as Kilic left Istanbul for London ahead of the games which will be inaugurated on July 27.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will also attend the inauguration of the Olympic Games as the guest of British Prime Minister David Cameron. The two premiers will together watch the basketball game between women teams of Turkey and Angola. 
There are 114 athletes in Turkish group, 66 of them are women, Kilic told reporters prior to his departure.
For the first time in our history, the number of women athletes is higher than the number of men, he added.
Kilic said that there were 114 athletes, 62 trainers, 18 federation officials, 13 executives from Sports Directorate General and Youth & Sports Ministry as well as 22 health personnel in Turkish group.
