ANKARA 

The International Olympic Committee (IOC)  has stripped six U.S. men athletes of their medals from the 2012 London Olympics because of Tyson Gay's doping suspension.

"Following the sanctions received by Tyson Gay from USA Track and Field (USATF), and based upon the rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the USA men’s 4 x 100m relay team, composed of Kennith Ryan Bailey, Jeffery Demps, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay, David Petrell Kimmons and Darvis Patton, who won silver at the 2012 London Olympic Games, has been disqualified," said a statement released by the committee said late Wednesday.

The statement also said according to the rules, "the results of any relay team in which the Athlete competed from the date the positive sample was collected or other violation occurred through to the commencement of any Provisional Suspension or Ineligibility period shall be disqualified, with all resulting consequences for the relay team, including the forfeiture of all titles, awards, medals, points and prize money."

Tyson Gay received a one-year doping suspension in 2014, which annulled his performances going back to July 2012, including the London Olympics. 

However, since the announcement of his suspension, the fate of the U.S. men's second-place finish in London and Tyson Gay's Olympic medals had been in limbo.

Following the Olympic Committee's decision, Trinidad-Tobago will get the silver medal and France will be awarded the bronze medal from the 2012 4x100 men's contests, in which Jamaica finished first.
