ISTANBUL

The Local Coordination Committees of Syria (LCC) said the Syrian army killed 2,545 people after the infamous August 21 chemical attack which killed more than 1,000 civilians.

The Syrian army continues to attack civilians while international community debates how to respond the chemical attack. According to LCC figures, Syrian forces killed 2,545 people including children and women following the chemical attack.

A recent report by the Syrian Network for Human Rights indicated that 101,513 people had lost their lives as of August 21, 2013 in operations and attacks conducted by the Assad regime, as well as in clashes between regime and opposition forces since the onset of the civil war in March 2011.

The chemical attack mounted by Syrian army outraged the international community with the US threatening to take military action against the Syrian regime.

However, a Russian proposal to place the Syrian chemical stockpile under international supervision saved the Assad regime from an imminent US airstrike. The Barack Obama administration still insists the US can attack the Syrian regime if Assad fails to implement the chemical deal.
