The Turkish government has condemned Thailand for sending around 100 Uighur Turks it had been housing in detention centers to China.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the Foreign Ministry accused Thailand of acting in disregard of international regulations governing the status of refugees.

“We are saddened to know that 115 Uighur Turks detained in Thailand were sent to a third country without their will and consent,” the Ministry said in a statement.

"Despite our numerous initiatives to related international organizations, we condemn Thailand’s improper action, which is against international humanitarian law."

Turkey referred to the non-refoulement principle - a United Nations principle prohibiting the expulsion of refugees to a country where they may face violence or imprisonment.

It added that the international community would be closely following the consequences.
