KIEV

A fire, which started Monday at an oil storage facility located near Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, was still burning in several fuel tanks on Thursday, local media said.

Five people were killed and another 14 were injured after the fire broke out at the storage facility for unknown reasons on Monday night. The fire resulted in the explosion of at least 16 fuel tanks.

“Firefighters are at the final stage of tackling the fire, yet the risk of explosions still remains,” said the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov on Wednesday.

The fire was still burning in three tanks, reported local media citing the authorities.

According to Ukrainian authorities, there were at least 14,000 tons of oil products in the fuel storage facility. Some 303 firefighters and 45 fire trucks took part in extinguishing the fire.
