Turkey offered condolences to Nepalese victims' families after a second major earthquake hit the country and killed at least 50 people so far.

"We offer our deepest sympathies to Nepal and India," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement late Tuesday. "We have expressed our aid agencies' readiness to these countries' officials."

The ministry also said that according to the initial reports that at least 20 people have died in India as well.

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal near the border with China, the U.S. Geological Survey said Tuesday.

The quake struck 49.7 miles (80 kilometers), east of capital Kathmandu. A series of large aftershocks were also reported shortly afterward.

Aid agencies are concerned that the quake could worsen conditions in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit the country on April 25, killing more than 8,150 people and injuring up to 18,000.
