A man was charged on Tuesday with the murder of a Syrian-born imam in London, according to British media.
Leslie Cooper, 36, was arrested on Sunday in Brent, northwest London. He was due to appear in court later on Tuesday.
Abdul Hadi Arwani, a British national, was found shot dead in his car in Wembley, northwest London, on April 7.
The father-of-six was a preacher at the An-Noor mosque in Acton, west London, and a known critic of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The investigation is being led by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism command due to their “expertise in… investigations with international dimensions and an established liaison network abroad,” a police statement said.
