Government forces and pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine mostly complied with the Minsk agreement since it came into force at midnight on Saturday, officials said.

Svyatoslav Tseholko, the Ukrainian president's press secretary, said Sunday on Twitter that 10 separatist attacks were recorded. He said that sides generally kept quiet as of 5 a.m. Sunday despite several violations of the agreement, which called for a total bilateral cease-fire.

Peace in the region depends on Russia's fulfillment of Minsk agreements, Tseholko added.

A cease-fire agreement for Ukraine was brokered in Minsk after 17 hours of negotiations last Thursday.

The talks for a settlement of the conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine included Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, as well as participants of the OSCE's Trilateral Contact Group, which included representatives of the separatist territories.
