Afghanistan: NATO airstrike leaves five dead

KABUL

Five high school students were killed by a NATO airstrike Thursday in Parwan province, police said.

“The raid targeted Taliban militants, but mistakenly killed students who were studying at a local farm,” Mohamed Zaman Mamozay, Parwan police chief said.

NATO, however, disputed police reports that the targeted individuals were students, saying they were Taliban members.

Last year, NATO launched airstrikes in the same area, leaving 13 civilians dead.
