KABUL
Two U.S. drone strikes killed four Taliban militants in Afghanistan's Laghman province, 90 miles (148 kilometers) east of Kabul, Afghan authorities said.
Afghan officials said the Taliban's educational chief for Laghman province, known as Commander Saboor, was among those killed.
“A U.S. drone has fired a rocket to the hideout of Taliban militants in Qala e Sharaf area of Alishing district Friday while they were planning for terrorist operations and killed three terrorists, including Commander Saboor,” provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zawak said.
Commander Saboor had been involved in numerous acts of terrorism, officials said.
In another attack by a U.S. drone in the same area Friday, one Taliban militant was killed, officials said.
International forces have recently increased drone strikes on Taliban's sanctuaries in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Many important members of al-Qaeda and the Taliban, including al-Qaeda senior commander Abul Bara Al Kuwaiti, have been killed by drone strikes recently.
Two U.S. drone strikes in next-door Nangarhar province last week killed at least 11 Taliban militants.
