SALAH AD DIN, Iraq

At least 10 Islamic State militants have been killed by Iraqi army airstrikes in the Salah Ad Din province, north of capital Baghdad, according to a local Iraqi government official.

In addition to the 10 IS militants killed, four other military vehicles were also destroyed, Mohammed Ali, a government official from Daluiye District told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.

“The army’s warplanes continue to strike Islamic State targets,” Ali said, adding that government forces were supported by armed tribesmen in order to free parts of Daluiye district from IS militants.

The Iraqi army, along with peshmerga forces and armed tribesmen, are backed by U.S. airstrikes in order to dislodge IS-led militants, who, in mid-June, conquered large parts of northwestern Iraq, including Mosul, the country's second largest city.

Other western countries are supporting Iraqi operations with munitions and weapons.
