ALEPPO, Syria

5,281 people have been tortured to death by Assad's regime in Syria since the start of civil war in the country in 2011.

The latest report issued Wednesday by the London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights said 5,281 people - including 94 children and 32 women - died as a result of being tortured in jail by the regime.

It was stated in the report that 243 people were tortured to death in August alone.

Regime forces bombarded field hospitals in opposition-held areas and 22 health officers, including 10 doctors, died during these attacks in August.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March, 2011. A recent UN report said more than 191,000 people are believed to have been killed in the country and more than 200,000 Syrians remain missing.
