Al-Khatib: "Last chance for Assad"

CAIRO

The President of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, Ahmad Moaz al-Khatib on Monday met with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil al-Araby in Cairo.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with al-Araby, al-Khatib said that he wanted to warn the Assad regime that they would not have a second opportunity.
Al-Khatib recently proposed the Assad regime to hold talks with the Syrian opposition.
"We extended a hand to the Assad administration to ease the pain of the Syrian people and not because we are weak. I warn the Assad regime that they would not have a second opportunity. A similar initiative would not take place again," al-Khatib underlined.
"We are not concerned with the war but the freedom of Syria. We will not refrain from joining the Syrian revolution even if it costs the lives of all of us. The revolution continues and will not stop. Assad must leave power so the bloodshed ends and destruction stops," al-Khatib stressed.
Al-Khatib had recently proposed to hold talks with officials of the Assad regime who have not been involved in the bloodshed and to let Assad leave Syria without getting tried in court.
Al-Khatib had given the Assad regime until February 10 to respond. Assad forces burned down al-Khatib's home in Damascus on Sunday night.
