ERBIL, Iraq

Kurdish leaders met in northern Iraq on Saturday to discuss the fight against Daesh and the refugee crisis sparked by the Syrian civil war.

A statement from Kurdish Regional Government President Masoud Barzani said he met Saud Malla, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria, in Erbil.

Barzani called for a coordinated approach to the crisis. “An urgent solution is necessary for Syrian Kurds' problems,” he said.

Millions of Syrian refugees have fled their country since war broke out more than four years ago, many of them Kurds. More than 250,000 Syrians have been killed in the conflict, according to the UN.
