North Korea suggests joint Sony hack inquiry to US
Official media says North can prove its innocence in cyber attack
SEOUL
North Korea proposed Saturday setting up a joint investigation with the U.S. into the hacking of Sony, state media reported.
"As the United States is spreading groundless allegations and slandering us, we propose a joint investigation with it into this incident," the official Korean Central News Agency quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying.
Referring to a U.S. senate report this week that highlighted the use of torture by the CIA, the spokesman added: "Without resorting to such tortures as were used by the U.S. CIA, we have means to prove that this incident has nothing to do with us."
Sony was forced to cancel the release of "The Interview," which depicts a plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, this week after anonymous hackers threatened cinemas. The threats followed the release of sensitive emails and information harvested in the cyber attack.
The FBI on Friday accused Pyongyang of being behind the attack. South Korea and Japan said they would support the U.S. in combating cyber crime.
