UK PM calls on Scotland to vote against independence

LONDON

United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron has again called on Scottish citizens to vote “no” to independence on the last day of his  Scotland visit.

Cameron attempted an emotional speech on Monday in the Aberdeen province of Scotland just three days before the referendum as part of his "Together we're better" campaign.

"We are a family of nations," he said. "A family is not a compromise, (...) it is a magical identity, that makes us more together than we can ever be apart so please – do not break this family apart".

The referendum will be held September 18, threatening a union that has lasted for 307 years.. If the "yes" vote is successful, Scotland is not expected to entirely leave the UK until 2016, the Scottish government proposing March 26, 2016 as its Independence Day.

The PM emphasized that the UK was built by all parts of the country adding, "We meet in a week that could change the United Kingdom forever. Indeed, it could end the United Kingdom, as we know it".

"On Thursday, Scotland votes, and the future of our country is at stake. On Friday, people could be living in a different country, with a different place in the world and a different future ahead of it," he said.

He warned the Scotland citizens against this decision.

"There’s no going back from this. This is a once-and-for-all decision. If Scotland votes yes, the UK will split, and we will go our separate ways forever."

Opinion polls from the weekend showed varied results - A poll carried out by Ominum for the Observer had the “No” campaign in the lead with 53 percent, “Yes” at 47 percent, while an ICM poll for the Sunday Telegraph had “Yes” at 54, and "No" at 46.

Elsewhere, the Sunday Times' Scottish edition put “No” at 51 percent and “Yes” at 49.
