The lawyer of ex-president Hosni Mubarak said that the acquittal of policemen from charges of killing demonstrators does not mean the innocence of the former leader.
"The innocence verdict is not applicable in this case because there is no perpetrator in the case of protesters' killing," Farid al-Deeb told Anadolu Agency on Saturday.
On Saturday, six policemen and security officials were acquitted of charges of killing 83 demonstrators in the coastal city of Alexandria during the January 25 revolution, which ousted Mubarak in 2011.
The ruling was the latest in a series of verdicts acquitting policemen of charges of killing demonstrators during the anti-Mubarak uprising.
The ex-president was charged with inciting the killing of demonstrators during the revolution.
Standing alongside Mubarak in the same trial are ex-interior minister Habib al-Adly and some other senior Interior Ministry officials, including the head of the once-feared State Security Service.
Hundreds of people were killed and thousands injured during 18 days of protests against Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for three decades.
Scores of policemen were brought to court for the killing and the injury of the demonstrators, but none of them was indicted.
