Turkish jets have killed “34 terrorists” of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in airstrikes in northern Iraq, the Turkish army said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Turkish Armed Forces’ statement released on its official website, “34 members of separatist terrorist organization have been neutralized in air operations in northern Iraq”.

The Turkish military usually uses the phrase “separatist terrorist organization” to refer to the PKK.

Following a new wave of attacks against Turkish security forces in the country’s southeastern regions in July, Turkey has restarted airstrikes against the PKK in northern Iraq after a two-and-a-half year pause.

Turkey launched what is publicly known as the “solution process” in 2013 to end the decades-old conflict with the PKK, a dispute that has so far claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people.

PKK has been designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU.

The PKK’s renewed campaign against the Turkish state has seen more than 40 security force personnel martyred since a mass-casualty bombing linked to Daesh on July 20 in Suruc left at least 34 people dead.
