US man indicted on Daesh, gun and drugs charges

WASHINGTON

An Ohio man has been indicted on 28 charges of providing support to Daesh, as well as firearms and drug violations.

Amir Said Rahman al-Ghazi, 38, also known as Robert C. McCollum, was arrested by police in June after he tried to buy an AK-47 assault rifle from an undercover law enforcement officer.

Al-Ghazi had a criminal record, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

He allegedly pledged support to Daesh and its leader, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, via social media in 2014, according to the Justice Department, which said that he attempted to recruit others to the extremist group from July 2014 to June 2015.

In addition, al-Ghazi expressed a desire to attack the U.S., and “took steps to create propaganda videos” for Daesh, the Justice Department said in a statement.

Twenty-five of the charges against al-Ghazi relate to his alleged sale of marijuana from Feb. 2014 through June 2015.
