EC President: 'Real possibility' of Greek bailout deal

BRUSSELS

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Friday that it is possible for an agreement on the Greek debt talks to be reached as the Eurogroup is set to meet on Saturday.

Speaking to a news conference in Brussels following a summit, Juncker said: "There is a real possibility of concluding an agreement. We the Commission, and the [European] Central Bank agreed on a common position."

"Tomorrow is a crucial day not only for Greece but for Europe as a whole, I am quite optimistic but not overly optimistic," Juncker said.

Greece must make about $2 billion in payments to the International Monetary Fund by the end of June.

Athens is currently negotiating with the Eurogroup and the International Monetary Fund in order to receive 7.2 billion euros ($8.2 billion), the last installment of the bailout package, which expires by the end of this month.

European Council President Donald Tusk said in a joint press conference with Juncker on Friday: "The pressure is an objective fact; we have today three days’ time."

"It’s not political blackmail when we repeat day after day that we are this close to the day where game is over," Tusk said.

"It is so easy to lose everything only because of bad emotions [and] bad political intentions…the basis must be respect," Tusk said.
