Iraq: Hundreds of families under siege by Daesh in Ramadi

ANBAR, Iraq

Hundreds of families are under siege in the Iraqi city of Ramadi after Daesh seized control of the Albu Ghanim area on Wednesday, a security source said.

Iraqi forces and tribal fighters withdrew from Albu Ghanim area after fierce clashes with Daesh, Brigader Khalaf al-Tarmouz, the security adviser of Anbar province’s council told The Anadolu Agency.

Al-Tarmouz said that Daesh is besieging hundreds of families and preventing them from leaving the area. There are fears that the terrorist group may commit massacres against the civilians.

Al-Tarmouz also stated that the al-Hashid al-Shaabi Shiite militia had withdrawn from the area three days ago.

He added that tribal fighters replaced al-Hashid al-Shaabi on the front lines, but they are not sufficiently armed.

Daesh is close to taking full control of the eastern part of Ramadi, according to al-Tarmouz.
