ANTALYA, Turkey

Turkish security forces detained a Dutch woman Monday in the southern province of Antalya, where she had allegedly been waiting for unidentified individuals to take her to Syria to join the ranks of Daesh.

Officials also said she was being sought by Interpol. The woman was then turned over to the foreigners' department at Antalya provincial police headquarters.

A Turkish General Staff statement released Sunday said 20 people were detained Saturday in the south-central province of Kilis for allegedly trying to cross illegally into Syria to join Daesh.

The suspects were traveling in a minibus toward Turkey’s border with Syria when they were stopped.

Thousands of foreign fighters from all over the world are believed to have joined terrorist organizations, including Daesh, in Syria and Iraq.
