A GermanWings jetliner on a trip from Hannover, Germany to Rome, Italy with 149 people on board made an emergency landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport Friday after a passenger and a crew member became ill, airport officials said.
“When we landed in Venice, the captain told us that two people were not well, a crew member and a passenger,” Eugenio Bartolini, a schoolteacher who was traveling on flight 4U 3882, said. “We flew over the Alps and should have followed the route Verona-Bologna-Rome. We saw the plane progressively descend and finally the lagoon of Venice appeared, where we landed.”
Medical staff boarded the aircraft and a female passenger, reportedly suffering from a panic attack, was comforted. It was not immediately known what was wrong with the crew member.
The flight was due to resume on another GermanWings aircraft as checks were carried out on the plane that made the emergency landing.
