Bosnia forms new government

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina 

Bosnia and Herzegovina has a new government nearly six months after general elections were held.

The appointment of the new assembly of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Council of Ministers, which will be led by Denis Zvizdic from the Party of Democratic Action (SDS) for the next four years, was confirmed by the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly on Tuesday. 

A total of 26 deputies out of 34 who participated in a meeting at the House of Representatives supported the new government while seven were opposed and one deputy was undecided.

Zvizdic was appointed as the President of Council while Adil Osmanovic was appointed as Minister of Civil Affairs.

Semiha Borovac became the Minister of Human Rights and Refugees from the senior partner in the coalition, the Democratic Action Party (SDA).

- Consensus reached

Igor Crnadak was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs while Mirko Sarovic was appointed as Foreign Trade and Economy Minister and Dragan Mektic became the Security Minister from another coalition partner, the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS).

Savko Matanic from the smallest coalition partner, the Democratic Front (DF), was appointed as Minister of Transport and Communications.

Vjekoslav Bevanda was appointed as the Minister of Finance, Marina Pendes became the Minister of Justice and Josip Guvesa from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) will hold the position of state Defence Minister.

The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina reached a consensus between parties on 22 February on the distribution of nine ministries and the names of the state ministers who would take place in the cabinet was announced on 13 March.

It took 16 months to form a new government in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the previous presidential and parliamentary elections were held four years ago.
