The Greek F-16 fighter jet which crashed at a Spanish airport on Monday reportedly suffered a technical failure, a French military spokesman said on Thursday.

The fighter jet crashed into parked aircraft at the Los Llanos airbase at Albacete, Spain, which is 162.8 miles (262 kilometers) south of Madrid. The accident was due to some form of technical failure, according to the spokesman.

Two Greek pilots died and 21 people were injured.  The bodies of the two Greek pilots were transferred to Greece on Thursday. A team of Greek experts remained in Spain to take part in the ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The pilots were taking part in a pilot training program for the armed forces of the member states of NATO called the Tactical Leadership Program.
