Rocket shells kill 10 people in Ukraine's Donetsk

KIEV

At least 10 people have been killed and nine others wounded in pro-Russian separatist rocket attacks on the rebel-held east Ukrainian city of Donetsk, the city's governor has said.

The governor said in a statement on Wednesday that one shell killed four people in a school playground and another killed six people on a minibus.

Kiev and pro-Russian rebels agreed to a cease-fire in the Belarusian capital of Minsk on September 5, which was aimed at ending a five-month conflict which has left more than 2,500 people killed, according to United Nations estimates.

Unrest in eastern Ukraine has torn the region apart since April, when Kiev launched military operations in the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk to restore government control after pro-Russian separatists had declared independence in the region.
