LONDON
The British Ministry of Defence announced Wednesday that two airforce jets had fired four missiles at Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant positions in Iraq - the first attack since parliament voted in favour of such action last Friday.
"Initial analysis indicates that the strikes were successful," it said in a statement.
The statement added that Royal Air Force actions had continued overnight in an "armed reconnaissance mission in support of Iraqi government forces west of Baghdad" with the jets leaving from Akrotiri, a British base in southern Cyprus.
The ministry said that four Brimstone missiles had been used to conduct a precision attack on two vehicles, "one of which was an armed pick up truck."
Last Friday, 524 British lawmakers voted for their country to join in U.S.-led air strikes in Iraq against ISIL. Only 43 MPs voted against the strikes.
