Pilot unharmed after Turkish F-16 fighter jet crashes in Diyarbakir

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey 

The crew of a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter plane that crashed on landing in the south-east of the country is in good condition.

The female pilot and her colleague sustained no injuries in Tuesday’s crash in Diyarbakir province. The aircraft, part of the Diyarbakır 8th Command, came into contact with an electricity pylon before the accident, authorities said.

Deputy Governor Ahmet Gunaydin said the jet’s single engine caught fire during landing and both crew ejected.

The Turkish General Staff said the exact cause of the accident was not known and the two flyers are in good health.  

All military and civilian flights in the area have been suspended.
