AA's Kurdish service celebrates its first year

ANKARA

The Anadolu Agency's Kurdish news service is celebrating its first anniversary on September 1.

The Anadolu Agency, which aims to become one of the world’s top five news agencies by 2020, launched itsKurdish service last year as an important step towards the AA's centennial vision.

In a short time the AA has become one of the most important news sources for the Kurdish media.

AA correspondents' news, photographs and images about clashes between the Iraqi army, Kurdishpeshmargas and Islamic State have been widely used by worldwide media.

The Anadolu Agency opened an office in Erbil in northern Iraq and started Kurdish wire service in two dialects, Kurmanji and Sorani, in September.

With the inclusion of Albanian, the agency's broadcasting languages has risen to eight - Turkish, English, Arabic, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Russian,Kurdish and French.

The AA aims to broadcast news in 11 languages by 2020.
