The cousin of Afghanistan’s outgoing president Hamid Karzai has been killed in a suicide bomb attack in the southern city of Kandahar.
Hashmat Karzai died after a suicide bomber arrived at his house during Bayram celebrations and detonated a hidden device, Kandahar police spokesman Ziya Duranay told Anadolu Agency.
"The suicide bomber had hidden the explosives in his turban, entered Hashmat Karzai’s house with other guests, and blew himself up," the spokesman said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
President Karzai’s brother Ahmet Veli Karzai was killed in his house by his own bodyguard in 2011.
