Israeli warplanes on Monday unleashed four airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, according to local and security sources inside the coastal enclave.

Sources said the airstrikes had targeted training camps belonging to Palestinian resistance factions in the central and southern Gaza Strip.

The strikes did not, however, result in any human casualties, according to Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra.

The Israeli army, meanwhile, confirmed the strikes, saying they had come in response to seven rockets fired from Gaza on Monday at Israeli border areas.

Israel Radio quoted an unnamed Israeli military source as saying that the Israeli air force had launched strikes against "military targets" in the southern and central Gaza Strip.

According to the source, targets included a Hamas site in Khan Younis.

The Israeli military source added that Hamas' silence over Monday's rocket salvo meant that it was responsible for them, assuming that Hamas itself – which has governed the strip since 2007 – wasn't behind the move.

2 Gaza policemen injured in Israeli strike

Two Gaza policemen were injured on Monday in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip.

The two were injured when Israeli warplanes attacked the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, according to Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra.

He told Anadolu Agency that the two policemen had been taken to hospital where they were being treated for moderate injuries.

Local security sources, meanwhile, said the airstrikes had caused severe damage to a number of homes near the areas that were targeted.

The airstrikes also destroyed an animal farm in the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza's Deir al-Balah province, eyewitnesses said.

Earlier Monday, Israeli warplanes launched four airstrikes against targets in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army has said Monday's strikes were in response to several rockets fired earlier from the Gaza Strip at Israeli border towns.

Gaza rockets reportedly land in Israel

Israeli army spokesman Peter Lerner on Monday said seven rockets fired from the Gaza Strip had landed in southern Israeli towns close to the border with the Palestinian enclave.

Speaking via Twitter, Lerner said that the alleged rocket attacks had not caused any casualties.

He had earlier said that a rocket had struck the southern Israeli city of Sderot, causing some damage.

Lerner added that a number of other rockets fired from Gaza had landed in empty areas in the western Negev region.

In response, Israel's air force on Monday launched several strikes against targets in northern Gaza.
