LONDON

The U.K.’s Labor Party has announced its recruitment of U.S. President BarackObama’s former campaign chief, who ran his successful 2008 election campaign.

David Axelrod will take on the role of senior strategic adviser while Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander will be Labor’s chair of general election strategy as the party gears up for the country's 2015 general election.

The Labor Party is not just hiring Axelrod, but also his consulting firm, AKVD, which means the party will also have access to the expertise of Larry Grisolano and Mike Donilon, veterans of Obama's presidential campaign, as they attempt to wrest back power from the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition.

Axelrod is due to meet with Ed Miliband, leader of the Labor Party, Harriet Harman, deputy leader of the Labor Party, and other senior Shadow Cabinet members in May.

“David Axelrod is known across the world for helping get President Obama into the White House in 2008 and then win re-election in 2012," Miliband said. "In his work for President Obama, David helped shape a campaign that reflected his vision and focused on building an economy that works for all hardworking people and not just a privileged few.“

“He will be a huge asset to our campaign as we work to show the British people how we can change our country for the better.” Miliband said.
