ALGIERS
Algeria's incumbent President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will cast his ballot Thursday in a school in the capital Algiers, his campaign said.
Bouteflika, 76, has been absent from the public eye since he was treated in Paris from a "mini-stroke" in April last year.
He has never attended election rallies, which were only attended by state and party officials.
Nearly 23 million voters are eligible to cast their ballot Thursday to elect a new president.
Six candidates, including Bouteflika, are vying for the top post.
But the incumbent president is widely expected to win re-election.
More than 300 foreign observers from the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the African Union and the United Nations are monitoring the vote.
