Turkish Minister of Finance Mehmet Simsek awarded as "Finance Minister of the Year for Emerging Europe 2013" by US Emerging Markets magazine.

Turkey's Simsek awarded 'Finance Minister of the Year'

WASHINGTON

Turkish Minister of Finance Mehmet Simsek was awarded in US capital Washington "Finance Minister of the Year for Emerging Europe 2013" by Emerging Markets, an American magazine on international economy, global finance, news, analysis and opinion.

Simsek is the the first-ever Turkish minister winning the award for his success in "managing to contain Turkey’s budget, halving Turkey’s public debt and presiding over the country becoming investment grade", the magazine said.

Meanwhile, Colombian Mauricio Cardenas was awarded as Finance Minister of the Year for Latin America, Philippines' Cesar Purisima was awarded as Finance Minister of the Year for Asia, Morocco's Nizar Baraka was awarded Finance Minister of the Year Middle East and North Africa, and South Africa's Pravin Gordhan was awarded as Finance Minister of the Year Sub-Saharan Africa.
