Syria crisis: UK, US and France prepare for a UN Resolution
British PM Cameron said, Britain, France and the US would present a draft resolution to the UNSC in New York on Tuesday about Syrian regime accepting passing its chemical weapons over in return for avoiding US strikes
Delivering a speech at the Commons Liaison Committee on Tuesday, Prime Minister Cameron stated that he had a phone call with the US President Barack Obama earlier Tuesday over the developments from Syria.
"Britain, France and the United States will table a resolution on Syrian chemical weapons in the United Nations Security Council later today," said Cameron and added, "If this is a serious proposal then we should act accordingly and I think a UN Security Council resolution is a good idea."
Cameron underlined that the issue of "timetable of the turning of the weapons" had to be included in the draft resolution and said, "We need to know that there's a proper timetable for doing this, we need to know there'd be a proper process for doing it, and crucially there'd have to be consequences if it wasn't done."
He noted that the turning of Syria's chemical weapons upon Russian proposal was something definitely worth exploring and stressed, "But we must be sceptical, we must be careful, we must enter this with a very hard head and some pretty cool calculations. Of course we should be sceptical, of course we should not forget a war crime has been committed."
