Magnitude of 7.3 quake hits Japan

TOKYO

The Japan Meteorological Agency has stated that the one-metre high waves hit the coast of Ishinomaki, a city in Miyagi, after the earthquake which happened at 17.18 local time.
Many Japanese cities felt the quake, even buildings in capital Tokyo where is hundreds of kilometres away from the quake epicentre were struck for a few minutes.
Last year's quake shook Miyagi prefecture badly and many residents in the region received alerts to move to higher grounds.
The Japan Meteorological Agency alerts were later lifted.
Moreover, Japanese broadcaster NHK stopped its regular programming and issued an alert about the coming up earthquake shortly before it hit the country.
