ANKARA

The Anadolu Agency will cover and publish Pope Francis' visit to Turkey in exceptional detail through its experienced staff.

Pope Francis is the spiritual leader of the world's Catholics and arrived on Friday at Ankara's Esenboga airport at around 1 pm to begin his three-day visit to the predominantly Muslim country.

He is scheduled to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Mehmet Gormez, head of the Directorate for Religious Affairs and the country’s top Islamic cleric.

Francis will also visit the Hagia Sofia, a Byzantine church built in the sixth century which was converted into a mosque when the Ottomans conquered Istanbul – then known as Constantinople.

The site has been a museum since 1935 and the Anadolu Agency appointed 23 photojournalists and 12 cameramen to follow and record every moment of his visit.

The visit will be reported in Turkish, Arabic, English, Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian, Russian, Kurdish, French and Albanian and will be relayed to its subscribers in 43 countries

The 76-year old Argentine pope is the fourth Supreme Pontiff to visit Turkey after Pope Paul VI visited the country in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979 and Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.
