IDLIB, Syria

The Syrian General Revolution has said "revolutionaries" have completely seized control of the city of Idlib in northwestern Syria.

The group said in a statement to The Anadolu Agency on Saturday: "Revolutionaries have managed to completely liberate Idlib city from security branches of the Assad regime.”

Several photos and videos shared on social media websites showed opposition fighters inside Syrian regime buildings including the province’s building and central prison as well as the main square of the city.

However, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) claimed hundreds of opposition fighters had been killed in “intense strikes” by Assad regime forces near the national museum and the industrial area in the eastern part of the city.

Syrian opposition factions under a single military group named Jeysh al-Fatah began military operations against Syrian regime forces in Idlib city five days ago.
