A ceasefire between Syria's government forces and the Free Syrian Army, to allow for the delivery of provisions to opposition-controlled districts of Damascus, was agreed on Wednesday.

Islamic Front General, Islam Allus said the ceasefire was agreed because the government have realized that the armed struggle would not lead anywhere in the Damascus suburbs, especially in east Gota.

The ceasefire between the two sides allows for the delivery of provisions to regions in Damascus which are under the opposition’s control and were previously blockaded.

Ceasefire agreements have been struck for Babila, Moadamieh, Qudsaya, Beit Sahm, Yalda, Barzeh and Yarmouk – a former Palestinian camp.

Allus said that government soldiers were only allowed in the Babila region after the ceasefire.

“Only some generals were allowed into Babila. Government soldiers are not allowed into any other region,” he said.

According to the UN, over 100,000 people have died during Syria's three year civil war, although the actual number is likely to be much higher, as the UN are no longer able to verify the death toll.
