GAZA CITY
Around 4500 births were registered in the Gaza Strip during the 30 days of Israel's attacks on the tiny Palestinian territory, the Palestinian Health Ministry said Saturday.
Gaza Interior Ministry spokesman Eiad al-Bozum, meanwhile, said that his ministry had not made a survey of the number of new Gazans yet.
He expected, however, the number of births to exceed 5000, saying that some children were born, but they had not been registered yet because they were born in either schools or shelters.
Gaza's population had reached 1.9 million in the first quarter of this year, including 947,000 males and 922,000 females, the Interior Ministry said.
Gaza's population is expected to reach 2.3 million by the year 2020, which will turn it into one of the most densely populated areas in the world, according to Palestinian statistics.
Israel had killed 1904 people, including 433 children, in almost a month of attacks on Gaza, Palestinian medical sources said.
