At the first session of the Digital Journalism Training held at the AA Istanbul International News Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karanfiloğlu, Head of the New Media and Communication Department at Ibn Haldun University's Faculty of Communication, gave a presentation.
Karanfiloğlu made assessments on the topics of “Algorithms, Self-Identity-Meaning Regimes and the Power of Information,” “Algorithms: Invisible Editing,” “Meaning Construction in Journalism,” and “The Responsibility of the Journalist.”
Emphasizing that while people have used traditional communication tools to access information for years, the impact of social media has increased in this period, Karanfiloğlu said that algorithms in social media usage are presented according to people's interests and likes, and that digital algorithms have an impact on selfhood and identity.
Karanfiloğlu stated that this situation also carries the risk of manipulation in the views expressed.
