Genel Energy announced Thursday that it abandoned its oil exploration activities off the shore of Cote d'Ivoire.
"The Aigle-1X exploration well on the CI-508 license offshore Cote d'Ivoire is in the process of being plugged and abandoned after failing to encounter hydrocarbons," Genel Energy said in a statement.
"The completion of this well concludes Genel's committed Cote d'Ivoire drilling programme," the statement added.
Genel Energy noted that it had a 24 percent working interest in the project.
According to the company's website, the area was estimated to hold 300 million barrels of oil equivalent gross prospective resources.
The offshore block Cote d’Ivoire is in the same basin as western Ghana, which contains recent deep-water discoveries, the website noted.
