The Foreign Affairs Council will gather in Brussels on Monday. The Council, which consists of foreign ministers from 28 member states, will discuss the priorities for the implementation of the EU global strategy. Ministers will discuss recent developments in Libya and North Korea and will also debate migration focusing on the situation along the Central Mediterranean route.
An Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting will be held in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday. Ministers will focus on the work program of Estonia’s presidency, fishing opportunities for 2018, trade, the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and organic farming.
The EU and U.K. will continue Brexit negotiations until Thursday in Brussels this week. Michel Barnier will represent the EU as Chief Negotiator for the 27 EU countries and Brexit Secretary David Davis will represent the U.K. Coordinators and working groups will meet throughout the week. The first round of Article 50 negotiations between the European Commission and the U.K. took place on June 19. Both parties agreed to create working groups on citizens' rights, financial settlements as well as other separation issues. Negotiation coordinators from the EU and the U.K. will also start a dialogue on issues pertaining to Northern Ireland.
Turkey’s Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Omer Celik will make an official visit to Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday. Celik will speak at a meeting of the EU-Turkey Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) on Tuesday. The state of play of the EU-Turkey relations and the implementation of the EU-Turkey Statement, the state of the economy in Turkey and EU-Turkey economic developments, social issues including employment and women’s rights in Turkey will be discussed at the meeting. Celik will also meet with European Commission First Vice President Frans Timmermans and EU’s High Representative Federica Mogherini.
The European Parliaments’ Civil Liberties Committee delegation will pay a visit to Washington to discuss protection of personal data, cybercrime, counter-terrorism, radicalization and immigration with U.S. authorities from Monday to Friday.
A delegation from the Security and Defense Subcommittee will visit Rome for Operation Triton, a border security operation conducted by Frontex, the EU’s border security agency and its base in Catania as well as NATO headquarters in Naples from Tuesday to Thursday. They will help the Italian border-control guards to conduct surveillance, search and rescue tasks, but also fight smugglers and traffickers in Central Mediterranean
