8 missing after fishing boat collided with commercial vessel off eastern China coast

ISTANBUL

A fishing boat sank after colliding with a commercial vessel off the coast of Shandong province in eastern China on Sunday, leaving eight people missing.

The fishing boat registered in Liaoning and the commercial vessel registered in Shanghai collided about 3.5 nautical miles east of Shandong province, according to authorities.

Following the crash, the fishing boat sank, but the commercial vessel remained unaffected.

Registration records showed that the fishing boat had nine people aboard when it set out from port, according to Global Times.

Authorities are using rescue vessels, helicopters, and nearby commercial and fishing boats to aid in the search and rescue efforts.

One person has been rescued and is in stable condition, while eight others are still missing as the search-and-rescue operations are ongoing.
