Türkiye's Chief of General Staff attends NATO video teleconference meeting

Regional defense, security issues discussed

ANKARA

The Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu participated in a NATO Military Committee video teleconference meeting Friday.

The meeting was chaired by Admr. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, with Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) Gen. Alexus Grynkewich and the heads of defence from NATO member countries.

Regional defense and security issues were discussed, according to a post on Türkiye’s social media platform NSosyal.

Separately, the North Atlantic Council met in an ambassadorial format, chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, for an update on the security environment amid Iran’s continued attacks across the Middle East and beyond.

The allies strongly condemned targeting Türkiye on Wednesday and expressed full solidarity with Ankara.

The Turkish National Defense Ministry said a ballistic munition fired from Iran and directed toward Turkish airspace was intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units in the Eastern Mediterranean.
