ISTANBUL
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday appointed Fahrettin Altun, the former head of the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, as ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican).
Altun, who most recently served as chair of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TIHEK) and previously headed the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, was appointed to the Vatican.
The appointment is part of a new round of diplomatic postings announced.
The appointments were made through a presidential decision signed by Erdogan and published in Türkiye’s Official Gazette.
Mustafa Kibaroglu was appointed permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna.
Mustafa Turker Ari was named ambassador to Georgia, serving at the Turkish Embassy in Tbilisi.
Baris Ceyhun Erciyes, deputy director general for the Balkans and Central Europe at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, was appointed ambassador to Albania, based in Tirana.
