Delegation heads for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution are meeting in the Thai capital Bangkok for informal talks running through Wednesday.

The talks began Sunday, following regional consultations on Saturday, according to an INC statement.

The meeting is part of a series of activities and meetings ahead of the fourth part of the committee's fifth session, expected to take place in March 2027. It also marks the delegates' second informal in-person meeting.

The committee was created to draft a global agreement on plastics.

Operating under the UN Environment Programme, the committee has held five main rounds of talks since 2022. During part of its fifth session in Geneva in August last year, negotiations on the draft text failed to reach a final outcome, prompting criticism that the process had stalled.
