-Program aims to raise environmental, climate awareness among media professionals and students in field

The third-term training program of Anadolu’s Green Lens: Environmental and Climate Journalism Training Project began Monday, bringing together media professionals and journalism students for training focused on environmental and climate reporting.

The opening session and third round of training programs are being held at AAtolye under a project coordinated by Anadolu with the support of the EU and the Turkish National Agency.

The initiative is organized in cooperation with Ankara University National Research Center for Sea and Maritime Law, France-based Station de Jeunesse, North Macedonia-based POLIS Institute and Romania-based EDITURA ERUYSAL SRL, with contributions from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Strategic Analysis Director Bilgay Duman said climate and environmental issues are increasingly affecting many aspects of daily life.

Duman said the training program aims to raise awareness of environmental and climate issues while updating participants’ knowledge on measures being taken in those areas.

He also thanked all institutions and contributors involved in the project.

Hakan Guvenlioglu, project manager at the Strategy and Project Management Office Directorate, also shared details about the initiative.

Guvenlioglu said the program is among the first projects in the world dedicated specifically to environmental journalism and said Anadolu takes pride in leading such an initiative.

Noting that journalism already includes specialized fields such as war and sports reporting, Guvenlioglu said the project aims to establish “environmental journalism” as a professional field of expertise as well.

He added that the initiative also functions as a social integration project aimed at increasing mobility and interaction among young people.
