Sea transport accounts for majority of Turkish exports in Jan-May

Sea transport accounted for 56.2% of Turkish exports in the first five months of the year, according to data compiled by Anadolu from the country's statistical bureau, TurkStat.

Turkish exports in January-May totaled $110.9 billion, a 3.4% increase year-on-year, while seaborne exports totaled $62.2 billion, up from $60.8 billion a year earlier.

Road transport exports totaled $35.3 billion in the first five months of the year, accounting for 32% of Türkiye’s total exports, while air transport export revenue increased 19% year-on-year to $11.7 billion.

Rail transport exports totaled $757.6 million in January-May, while exports via other modes of transport reached $791.4 million.

Meanwhile, sea transport made up the largest share of $152.2 billion in imports coming into Türkiye in January-May, with $80.9 billion, followed by road transport with $27.9 billion, air transport with $22.3 billion, and rail transport with $1.4 billion.

Imports via other modes of transport reached $19.4 billion.
