ISTANBUL
Russia claimed on Sunday that it took control of another settlement in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, where Moscow continues to undertake an offensive amid the ongoing Ukraine war.
A statement by the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its forces captured the village of Malynivka, located about 18 kilometers (11 miles) east of the city of Pokrovsk, a key front in Russia’s ongoing offensive in the Donetsk region.
Moscow has repeatedly claimed territorial gains in recent months, particularly in Donetsk, where heavy fighting has intensified around Pokrovsk.
Pokrovsk serves as a critical logistics hub for Ukraine’s military operations in the region.
Ukraine’s General Staff claimed in an earlier statement on Telegram that the country’s forces repelled 58 Russian assaults near 11 settlements on the Pokrovsk front over the past day, including near Malynivka.
However, Ukrainian authorities have not immediately commented on Russia’s claim, and independent verification of the claim is difficult due to the ongoing conflict.
